Ogden & Company, Inc., AMO® was founded and incorporated by Elliott M. Ogden on October 29, 1929, on the infamous day of the stock market crash. At this time, Elliott Ogden had about ten years real estate experience with the Frederick P. Jones Company, an established old line Milwaukee Realtor. His partner at Ogden & Company, Inc., AMO® was Guido Scheffer who served as Vice President until Elliott Ogden bought out his portion of the company in 1934, thus becoming sole stockholder and owner.

The company began primarily as a residential sales and leasing organization with an office located at 110 East Wisconsin Avenue. Within three years of its conception, Ogden & Company, Inc., AMO® had not only expanded its residential staff, but also added divisions for real estate management, commercial sales and leasing and mortgage procurement and servicing.

In the mid to late 1930's, the company achieved the distinction of being one of the leading real estate firms and Milwaukee's first full service real estate organization. This distinction was attained through high standards of integrity, innovation techniques and by working diligently to build an excellent reputation in the community.

The years during World War II resulted in a national decline in real estate activity, but beginning again in 1946, business became strong and the company added an Insurance Division as well as a Project Development arm.

In 1947, due to major renovations in the current office space, the company moved the offices to the Railway Exchange Building at the Southwest corner of Broadway and East Wisconsin Avenue. The company remained at this location until June of 1957, when a major decision was made to relocate out of the central business district and purchase the building at 1234 North Prospect Avenue. This was a decision based on the company’s continued growth and increased demand for more office space and off street parking.

After serving for over four years in the United States Army Corps during World War II, John Ogden, Sr. joined Ogden & Company, Inc., AMO® in May, 1946 as a Vice President and Manager of the real estate management Division, a position he held for approximately ten years. In 1958, John Ogden, Sr. became President and Treasurer of the firm, and Elliott M. Ogden, Chairman of the Board.

In 1967, after years of continued growth, the company opened three residential sales offices in Bayside, Cedarburg, and Elm Grove. In June of 1979, John Ogden, Jr. joined the Cedarburg office as a sales associate and in 1981, was elected Vice President and the head of the Development Division of the company. Also in 1981, Peter Ogden joined the company as a Property Manager in the Real Estate Management Division until his election to Vice President of that division in 1985. In the fall of 1984, John Ogden, Sr. was elected chairman of the Board, and in April 1992, Peter Ogden was elected President of the company. Today, John Ogden, Sr., Peter Ogden and John Ogden, Jr. all maintain an active role in the company's daily operations and provide continued leadership while maintaining strong values and unity at the company.

Due to further growth and expansion of the company, in October 1986 the company relocated from 1234 to 1550 North Prospect Avenue. In 1993, CraftMaster Contractors, formally OakTree Services and doing business under the Ogden Investments, Inc. parent company, was established as the maintenance division of Ogden & Company, Inc., AMO®. On March 17, 1995, Ogden & Company, Inc., AMO® merged its complete operations to offices located at 8850 N. Port Washington Road to facilitate communication between employees and provide customers with “one stop shopping” of complete real estate services.

In 1999, Ogden & Company, Inc., AMO® acquired additional residential sales offices in Wauwatosa and Hartland, expanding the sales team to over 100. Responding to market needs, these two separate offices were consolidated and relocated in 2003 to Elm Grove. In addition, following continued rapid growth, Ogden & Company, Inc., AMO® relocated its Corporate Headquarters, Commercial Brokerage and Leasing, real estate management and Accounting Divisions to a new office in downtown Milwaukee.

With its evolution, Ogden & Company, Inc., AMO® has continued to grow its operations to proactively meet the expectations of our clients and team members. In 1993 an executive committee was established comprised of the Vice Presidents of each division of the company. This unified body represents each area of the company's interests in establishing and enforcing policies and procedures. Since 1995, the commercial management division increased its portfolio from approximately 225,000 square feet to in excess of 1 million square feet, the multi-family division grew in the last five years in excess of 60%, and the condominium division doubled its management fees in the same time period. In response to this growth, the Executive Committee established the Management Committee comprised of the Director of each of the Real Estate Management Divisions. Specific concerns, growth response, budgeting, and staffing are among this committee's responsibilities. Primarily, however, this committee was established to provide unity and consistency, foster further communication and maintain a team atmosphere among all employees.

Ogden & Company, Inc., AMO® currently has a full corporate staff of approximately 200, including brokers. Our corporate office is located in downtown Milwaukee while business is also conducted from branch offices on 21st & Michigan Streets, and in the cities of Elm Grove and Bayside.
